Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to appear in court?
Only if your citation is checked “Personal Appearance Required.” If it is a waivable offense, paying the fine prior to your court date satisfies the ticket and waives your appearance
What happens if I miss my court date?
Failure to appear or pay by your court date may result in additional court fees and potential driver’s license suspension. If you are unable to appear on your scheduled date, please see the “how do i request a continuance?” below.
How do I request a continuance?
Submit a written request to the Clerk of Court at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled court time. Requests via phone are not accepted.
How can I contest my citation?
Appear in court on the date listed on your ticket to enter a plea of “Not Guilty.” and the case will be transferred to Oberlin Municipal Court. Oberlin Municipal Court will contact you with the court date. Once it is transferred, Amherst Mayor’s Court does not have control over court dates/times.
Are personal checks accepted?
