Amherst Mayor Mark Costilow March 17, 2020 Press Release:
In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Amherst’s Mayor Costilow is encouraging the public to adhere to virus mitigation guidelines from the CDC’s website to reduce the risk of exposure and the spread of COVID-19. As we work through this evolving issue, the City of Amherst will keep the public informed by posting any new information on the city’s website as well as providing press releases as relevant.
Mayor Costilow wants to assure Amherst residents that the City of Amherst plans to keep all City services fully operational. All Amherst City departments remain staffed and open. City of Amherst employees, Police, Fire, Utilities (including Water & Sewer) and Street are considered essential employees and will continue to provide all necessary services to our City and its residents.
In order to limit exposure to COVID-19, Mayor Costilow has advised that beginning at 4:00 pm on Thursday March 19, 2020, the following City buildings will be closed to the public:
- San Spring Building located at 480 Park Ave.
- Amherst City Hall located at 206 S. Main St.
However in spite of these closings, all City Administrative offices including the Mayor’s office, Utilities office, Income Tax office, Auditor’s office, Treasurer’s office, and Council Clerk’s office will remain staffed and available during normal working hours to answer telephone calls, emails and other electronic inquiries from residents, vendors, and other members of the public.
